Governor Huey P. Long was impeached by the Louisiana Legislature in 1929 and tried by the Senate. Long, in turn, produced a "Round Robin" statement signed by 15 senators pledging to vote "not guilty" no matter what the evidence. The impeachment process, now futile, was suspended. Huey Long Pierce, Louisiana governor and United States senator, was born 30 August 1893, near Winnfield, Winn Parish, Louisiana, and died 10 September 1935. He studied law and practiced in Winnfield after 1915; served as Louisiana public service commissioner (1921-1926); was elected governor of Louisiana (1928); was elected to the United States Senate (1930); and organized the Share-Our-Wealth Society (1934) for which he had national support.
